“We had three goals in mind when developing the light concept: at first it is of outmost importance in the city to be seen well, night and day! “Look invented the first automatic pedal in 1984 and the French brand has become the leader in this product segment. Over the past 30 years, we have continued to innovate to support the expectations of our users with ultra-light road pedals, power sensors integrated in the pedals to measure the performance of cyclists, mountain bike pedals robust resistant to all conditions of use… These numerous projects have forged our innovative brand image.
We had in mind to offer a range of hybrid pedals – a flat face and an automatic face – for several years now. But we wanted to go further in our approach. Offer relevant answers to the categories of cyclists who use the bicycle as transportation means. One of the feedbacks most often mentioned by these users is safety: will other road users see me correctly? It is obvious that cycling should not mean putting your life at risk. So we very quickly identified the pedals as a relevant solution to address this problem thanks to the integration of lights. Why? Pedals are in motion and the light signal they would emit is clearly identifiable and can be associated with the presence of a cyclist. It allows other road users to adapt their driving to preserve the safety of cyclists.
To achieve this project, we needed to partner with an expert in lighting, so that we could rely on his experience. The choice of Spanninga came naturally. We found a French partner whose geographic proximity has facilitated the collaboration in the development of this project and enabled rapid and constructive discussions. The know-how of Spanninga allowed us to meet the challenges of the project, one of the major points of which was the miniaturization and the integration of the lighting components into the pedal.

” We want our customers to feel special when they ride a Stella e-bike. The lights truly add value to this, because safety is of most importance to us, as market leader. That is why we developed a contemporary design with the most up-to-date technology, coming from Spanninga. This made it possible to create a nice and smooth light image. “Union was looking for a fully integrated front and rearlight into the tube frame of our Union Lite bicycle. In the end, Spanninga designed a light exclusively for the Union Lite. It makes a perfect fit for the minimalistic design of this Urban bike. The great thing is that the light is easily plugged in or out, allowing Urban bikers to easily attach a front carrier to the bike, or any of the other modules.
